Charleston artists present unique, affordable and locally
made art just in time for the holiday season! Static in the Snow will be held on Friday,
November 30 from 6 to 9 pm at The Michael Mitchell Gallery .
Participating artists include Susan Colwell, Hirona Matsuda, Lisa Shimko, Jim Victor, Marissa Vogl, Trever Webster and Sarah Boyts Yoder as well as visiting guest artists Lisa Abernathy, Seth Corts, Jeanette Kaczenas and Spike Kittrell. Meet these artists at the reception, which is free and open to the public.
Hirona Matsuda's fantastic assemblages will be one of the featured works. Matsuda creates assemblages using found objects. She delights in finding items that others have deemed useless and refocuses the viewer’s attention on their aesthetic value. She incorporates such items as insect wings, blades of grass, rusted hardware and antique wallpaper to create miniature worlds. The assembled compositions are a delicate balance between color and texture, light and shadow, and gravity and glue. Matsuda will also exhibit ornaments that are scaled-down versions of her larger work – perfect holiday gifts for any art enthusiast!
The Michael Mitchell Gallery is located at 483 King Street in downtown Charleston. For additional information about artists and/or the opening, please contact Kate Wichlinski at Michael Mitchell, gallery@michaelmitchellinteriors.com or 843/564.0034.
