Butterfly to Host Wildlife Artist Ilse De Villiers for SEWE King Street Stroll

Come Butterfly Women's Consignment Boutique on Upper King Street to welcome and meet award winning wildlife artist Ilse De Villiers for the annual SEWE King Street Stroll, Friday, February 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, part of Charleston's fantastic Southeastern Wildlife Exposition.

Ilse De Villiers has a passion for nature and animals and has been painting African wildlife for the past twelve years. She uses acrylics on canvas to capture animals in such meticulous detail and so lifelike that the onlooker is spellbound.

Because she also has a love for all the colors in nature, her paintings are everything, but never dull. She specializes in original art and no prints or giclees are made. She visited the U.S. and specifically SEWE for the first time in 2008, back in 2009 and 2011.

Seeking Indigo to Host Citadel Grad and Noted Wildlife Artist Larry Seymour for SEWE King Street Stroll Friday

Come to Seeking Indigo to welcome and meet award winning wildlife artist Larry Seymour for the annual SEWE King Street Stroll, Friday, February 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, part of Charleston's fantastic Southeastern Wildlife Exposition.

Larry Seymour’s love for nature and wildlife and his innate artistic ability has allowed him to express his love of wildlife in a way that all people can share. Since earning a B.S. degree in Biology from the Citadel, he has also shared his appreciation for nature by teaching zoology and biology.

Seymour began drawing and sketching in elementary school and by college, he had sketched portraits for President John Kennedy and John Glenn. While he received letters of gratitude from them, portraits were not his real love.

Focusing his work on his favorite subject, wildlife, Seymour used mediums of pastels and scrimshaw. His scrimshaws received national recognition in the Wall Street Journal. Seymour was named South Carolina Wildlife Federation Artist of the Year in 1988.

Do More Than Just Look at Michael Mitchell Gallery

CHARLESTON, SC - Wednesday February 16, 5:30-8:30 PM Michael Mitchell Gallery will "Do More Than Just Look" with a launch party to celebrate their five day exhibition featuring wildlife artist Betty Foy Botts. The event will benefit the College of Charleston's Grice Marine Biology Laboratory and feature a touch tank display set up by the school. Donations are encouraged upon admission.

The touch tanks will feature live animals from local estuaries set against a background of art work from select Lowcountry wildlife artists, and will be open 11am-closing from Wednesday, February 16 through Sunday, February 20, 2011. Betty Foy Botts will show work from her new collection.

Also part of the exhibition, Friday, February 18 from 5:00-8:00 PM, the Michael Mitchell Gallery will be part of the SEWE King Street Stroll, featuring SEWE Artist Rick Reinert. Janeice Linden to Present Friday Evening at the Francis Marion for the SEWE King Street Stroll

Award-Winning wildlife artist Janeice Linden will present her pastels Friday evening Friday Feb. 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Francis Marion Hotel during the SEWE King Street Stroll.

Primarily a pastel painter, Linden has enjoyed success with a variety of media including graphite, charcoal, acrylic and oils. Figures, landscapes, animals, and contemporary subjects have been included in her work. Her true passion, however, is capturing wildlife and nature in pastel and she does this by breathing life into each painting with her realistic painting style.

In 2004, Linden became a member of The Society of Animal Artists. Her works have won honors in the Pastel Journal’s annual Pastel 100 competitions and have been published in multiple issues.

The Francis Marion Hotel, at the corner of Calhoun and King, is a Charleston landmark and located in the heart of the historic Upper King Design District.
