Sweet 185 has some thoughts to share with you on the Elasticity of Your Skin.
"Alpha-hydroxy acids, a popular ingredient in skin care, are being added to skin products in ever-increasing strengths. Alpha-hydroxy is a trade name for one combination of fruit acids including citric, malic, tartaric, lactic and glycolic acid extracted from fruit, sugar cane, milk, or made synthetically. Most AHA cremes sold by department stores and dermatologists contain synthetically-made glycolic acid.
Alpha-hydroxy is popular because fruit acids dissolve the intracellular “glue” that holds the outer layer of cells to the surface of the skin. This often makes skin plumper-looking and even reduces the appearance of fine lines.
But I have to wonder, what does that do to the elasticity of our skin? The whole idea is too aggressive for me. No matter how impressive the short term results, we can’t traumatize and weaken our skin cells repeatedly without an adverse reaction. Over time the skin will react defiantly by toughening up. After all, it has a critical job to do. Meanwhile, we’ve made our skin extra vulnerable, not only to the chemicals in the product, but to environmental pollutants and the sun.
Keep your skin elastic by keeping it moist. Spray it with a floral water that is made to balance your skin regularly (with the essential oils of rose or lavender). I recommend Hydrating Mineral Mist from Anakiri.
Also, use a moisturizer made by a company that truly has your health as a priority. I recommend Calendula Cream for skin by Jurlique. When you apply the moisturizer, take a few minutes and stimulate your skin with a light massage. Stretch your mouth in every direction, open your eyes extra wide and give your skin a little workout. The best exercise combination of all? A holistic facial and all the smiling you’ll be doing afterwards."
