Everyone's favorite Upper King Street restaurant, Fish, is about to reopen after a beautiful remodeling and retooling in addition to magical menu surprises.
Gibson, Thompson, Guess Architects have re-imagined both the interiors and exteriors, from the unique purple heart wood bar to an edgy 65-seat dining room on the first floor of 440 King. Design highlights include art by architect/artist Gordon Nicholson. It's all too beautiful to miss, and rivals the toniest Manhattan restaurant.
In addition to architectural changes, Fish is taking its French-Asian concept to a new level. Menu favorite naked fish was perfectly fresh and perfectly cooked. The scallops with coconut plantation rice, green peas and roasted plums were delicious. The people sitting at the next table were ecstatic about the grilled pork chop and bouillabaisse.
New lunch at Fish will be a fresh, fast and radical departure from its past –a new twist on traditional Chinese moo shu. With a variety of options, the new lunch concept will cater to the established Upper King Street business lunchers and those seeking a quick, delicious, made-to-order meal.
Don't want to spoil the pretty food surprise, but the Dim Sum was too fabulous not to share! Pictured: crab wonton with plum sauce, roasted pork dumpling with sweet soy gastrique, peanut chicken spring roll with basil hot chili sabayon and braised beef stuffed steam bun with bleu cheese. Too, too!
Fish's "soft openings" benefitted AFFA, and there were many special mentions: Reggie Gibson, David Thompson, Alice Guess, Glenn Keyes, Jim Rhode, Blitch Plumbing, Ben Arnold Distributors, Bob Heinz, Franz Baichl, Gordon Nicholson, Mark Marhefka, Al Trego, Keegan-Filion Farms, Split Creek Farm, Ed & Jeff from Berlin's. "After eight years, we understand that no matter how hectic the world gets, there is always time to sit down with good people and enjoy a fine meal."
