At this month's Upper King Street Shop & Stroll, held on the 3rd Friday of every month, the Art Mecca of Charleston will be featuring the dual exhibition "Expressions" by Claudia Hartley & Megan Johnson.
Since Claudia was young enough to remember, she has always identified herself as an artist, drawing on anything available: the smooth sand at the beach, the underside of bark, and rocks. As an honor graduate, Claudia recieved her BFA degree in painting and drawing from the University of Georgia. She married and raised two kids while teaching art and opening her own art school in Atlanta. She painted for galleries in Atlanta and then moved to Arizona. After much success in the west, Claudia wanted to be closer to her sons and grandkids and moved back east and now lives on Isle of Palms, SC. The comment Claudia hears most about her work is "happy"! Come meet Claudia and her happy paintings.
Inspired by nature and it's beauty, Megan captures her outdoor experiences and turns it into art; whether it be collecting brightly colored produce and fresh flowers from her family's farm in Iowa or shells, and sea creatures from SC beaches. Megan infuses her inspiration from the outdoors into her glass work through imagery, coloring, and texture. The process of glass art is an involved and laborious process, requiring heating, cooling, melting, layering, and molding. Currently, Megan lives and embraces the life of Kiawah Island.
