Courtney Prine Hosting a Party to Raise Funds for Abby Bunkley's Fight Against Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Courtney Prine will host a “Wiggin’ Out” party at Upstairs at Midtown on Saturday, February 18th at 7pm to raise funds for Abby Bunkley’s fight against Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Abby was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on November 4, 2011 and started the first of six intense chemotherapy infusions just days later. This journey has not been easy for her, but she remains positive and is very grateful to have such an amazing support group.

The goal of the event is to raise enough money to take the burden of medical bills off of Abby while she is going through this challenging time in her life, so toss on your best wig and show your support!

There will also be a great selection of items to auction off throughout the event, so please plan to bring cash if you would like to participate.

A Global Affair Gala & Silent Auction to End the Global Water Crisis at Lowndes Grove Plantation November 10th

Possibilities Without Borders will be hosting their fourth annual Global Affair Gala and Silent Action on Thursday, November 10th. This year’s event will celebrate Water Mission International's 10 Year Anniversary and will benefit Water for Kenya!

This year PWB, WMI and the College of Charleston have set a minimum fundraising goal of $30,000 to put towards creating accessible water for a community in Kenya. This goal will fund the purchase, delivery, and set up of a water filtration system in Kenya this spring and also educate natives about the health and hygiene factors associated with clean water.

Established in 2009 as a private South Carolina based not-for-profit organization, Possibilities Without Borders, Inc. was setup to guarantee the success of international service-learning based projects by providing participating students, faculty, community members, and other partner organizations the necessary resources, including supplies and travel support, to achieve each project's goals. Come on out Thursday November 10th and support this amazing cause!

 

Cupcake Hosts Cupcake Challenge at WINGS Programs

From October 24th-November 4th, Cupcake will be joining forces with WINGS by hosting a Cupcake Challenge at their programs at Chicora, North Charleston, Memminger, and James Simmons Elementary. The WINGS program builds on student’s social and emotional skills added to the building blocks for successful, educated and responsible individuals of our future.

For the Cupcake Challenge, each WINGS school will be challenged to see how the students live up to the WINGS creed. Students will be divided into groups and will be awarded sweet stamps when they demonstrate what they have learned from the program. After two weeks, the group with the most sweet stamps from each school will be awarded the grand prize of a Birthday Party at Cupcake's Belle Hall Shopping Center location. The other students participating in the challenge will be visited by the Cupcake Mobile to enjoy Cupcake's delicious minis.

October’s special cupcake will be a pink vanilla cake with cream cheese icing and a sugar heart. Additional donations can be made by purchasing a big pink cherry for $1 to honor a survivor or pay tribute to a passing loved one.

Michael Mitchell Gallery Hosts Benefit Preview Party for Artists Helping Artists

Michael Mitchell of the Michael Mitchell Gallery and The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League present "Artists Helping Artists" to Benefit the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.

"Artists Helping Artists" Benefit Preview Party will be Thursday, September 2, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Michael Mitchell Gallery, 438 King Street in downtown Charleston.

The event will showcase the works of many live and silent auction artists who will be featured at the October "Artists Helping Artists" Black Tie Benefit. Food and spirits provided by Poogan's Porch. Casual attire. Suggested donation is $10 at the door.

REV Promotion for Greater New Orleans Foundation Oil Spill Fund is a Smashing Success

REV LLC, a greater Charleston restaurant group, raised an unprecedented amount of money during their week-long promotion to benefit the Greater New Orleans Foundation Oil Spill Fund.

When the owners of Poe’s Tavern, Taco Boy, Monza and Closed for Business were asked to participate in Drink Up for the Gulf Coast, a fundraiser to benefit the GNOF, there was no question that they would participate.

“For us it was a matter of timing, should we plan the promotion around the July 4th Holiday weekend or should we wait and do it later in July,” said Phoebe Byers, Director of Marketing and Development for REV LLC. “Ultimately we decided to capitalize on the Holiday weekend and go for it.”

The decision to promote the fundraiser during the July 4th weekend proved to be a smashing success for REV as they raised almost $11,000 during the week-long promotion.

REV chose to promote the sale of Abita beer, brewed in Louisiana, just North of Lake Pontchartrain. They acquired some Abita glassware and t-shirts from the distributor plus two different types of Abita beer, Purple Haze and Andygator.

All the money raised during the promotion will go directly to the Greater New Orleans Foundation Oil Spill Fund and in particular to fishermen whose businesses have been devastated by the oil spill. “As a coastal community, Charleston residents realize how distressing a disaster of this nature would be to their shores,” said Byers.

There are 1,000 ‘Katrina families’ still in FEMA trailers. Joyce is 67. She has lived in a FEMA trailer since Katrina hit the Gulf, nearly 4.5 years ago. If we raise $5,000 Joyce will finally have enough money to finish her home andleave her trailer.
