Today's "Beat the Heat" Dinner at O-Ku with Beer Pairings

The temperature outside isn't the only thing heating up Charleston this June! Locally sourced peppers shine on O-Ku's "Beat the Heat" four-course menu where each course is paired with an Asian lager or ale, carefully chosen to cool down the body and "beat the heat!"

P.I.E. Bake Shoppe Wins Best Deli Sandwich in the Nation

The results are in and  P.I.E. Bake Shoppe just won "Best Deli Sandwich in the Nation" in Restaurant Hospitality magazine.

Their Ham & Blueberry Sandwich isn't your typical deli sandwich, and that's a good thing. Owner Paige Young layers ham, blueberry chutney, wasabi mustard, fig goat cheese, red onion, and baby spinach on herbed focaccia bread for a savory & sweet delight.

"Here’s a deli-style sandwich that appeals to those with a delicate appetite and to those who shave their knuckles every other day. Don’t let the blueberry chutney fool you; the wasabi mustard provides a kick and savory balance. Still, we suggest you eat this sandwich with both pinky fingers pointing out," said the judges.

"A Night on the Patio with Sass Winery" at The Macintosh

Join The Macintosh on the patio for summer menu tastings paired with wines from Sass Winery. Carefully selected wine pairings from winemaker Jerry Sass will be served alongside seasonal fare by executive chef Jeremiah Bacon at this reservations-only event. The four-course dinner will begin with appetizers and a wine reception before transitioning to a family-style meal. Wines from Sass Winery will also be available for retail purchase.

The dinner will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 7 p.m. on the patio at The Macintosh, located at 479 King Street. The event will cost $65 per person exclusive of tax and gratuity. For reservations, call (843) 789-4299.

Get Out! Recently I visited 82 Queen for a great dinner in one of the most beautiful outdoor settings in town. 82 has been a Charleston fine dining address for 30 years, but there’s nothing old about Chef Steven Lusby’s dishes. From She Crab Soup poured at the table to deconstructed Caramelized Banana Pudding, everything is fresh, Southern, as local as possible and strictly gourmet. GM Johnny Williams serves as sommelier and guide to the restaurant’s impressive wine list. I’ve seen the menu for their June 28 Basil Hayden Bourbon dinner and it should be sold out in about five minutes but call the restaurant to see if you can squeeze in. There’s a reason 82 Queen has endured as a prime hot spot for locals and visitors; they’re restaurant royalty.

Dining outdoors is dear to every Charlestonian heart, and there are other spots worth a mention. For balcony seating overlooking the City Market, there’s Lowcountry Bistro on South Market. Owned by 82 Queen’s Kishes and operated by their talented crew, LCB is a beautiful renovation to a very old building, and the menu is wonderful.

Guerrilla Cuisine's NOLA Inspired Dinner by Chef Will Fincher

At 5:30pm on Sunday, June 9th, Chef Will FIncher of Monza and Closed for Business, will be preparing a New Orleans inspired, multi-course dinner for Guerilla Cuisine.   

Guerilla Cuisine is Charleston's first underground supper club. The undisclosed location will be announced to attendees 2 days prior to the event.

Only 30 tickets will be sold for this chef's choice charity event- so hurry! Tickets are $65.00 and can be purchased here. Proceeds will benefit Louie's Kids and their battle against childhood obesity. Come enjoy a delicious meal, some excellent jazz music and rich Charleston art.
