Biden To Receive Voice Of Courage Award From Darkness to Light at Circle of Light Gala Nov. 17th

 Darkness to Light (D2L), a national nonprofit organization working to empower and teach adults to prevent child sexual abuse, will honor Delaware Attorney General Joseph R. “Beau” Biden, III with a 2011 Voice of Courage Award at the Circle of Light Gala Thursday Nov. 17, 2011 at the Gaillard Auditorium. Biden, the son of U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden, will join past Voice of Courage honorees including John Walsh, victim rights advocate and host of America’s Most Wanted; actress AnneHeche; and Miss America 1958 Marilyn Van Derbur.

The award will recognize Biden and the Delaware Stewards of Children Steering Committee for their leadership to push D2L’s Stewards of Children™ training throughout the state and beyond. The training teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

“It is not a child’s job to protect him or herself from abuse, it’s our job,” said Biden on the initiative announcement earlier this year. “That’s why the Delaware AG’s Office announced we are partnering with state child advocacy groups and the YMCA of Delaware to offer training for adults on how to spot signs of childsexual abuse and report it."

Winter Class Schedule Now Available at REDUX Art Center

Fall Fun House Event at The Children's Museum October 29th

 The Children's Museum is excited to offer their annual Fall Fun House event, a safe alternative to trick or treating, on Saturday, October 29th from 4:30pm - 6:30pm.  Kids will be able to trick or treat throughout the museum. In addition, there will be games, prizes, crafts, candy, face painting, a hay maze, and more! Join them for this family friendly event. Cupcake Hosts Cupcake Challenge at WINGS Programs

From October 24th-November 4th, Cupcake will be joining forces with WINGS by hosting a Cupcake Challenge at their programs at Chicora, North Charleston, Memminger, and James Simmons Elementary. The WINGS program builds on student’s social and emotional skills added to the building blocks for successful, educated and responsible individuals of our future.

For the Cupcake Challenge, each WINGS school will be challenged to see how the students live up to the WINGS creed. Students will be divided into groups and will be awarded sweet stamps when they demonstrate what they have learned from the program. After two weeks, the group with the most sweet stamps from each school will be awarded the grand prize of a Birthday Party at Cupcake's Belle Hall Shopping Center location. The other students participating in the challenge will be visited by the Cupcake Mobile to enjoy Cupcake's delicious minis.

Children's Yoga Event at Seeking Indigo July 22nd

REDUX Kids Summer Camp Starting July 11

Studio Elements of Sculpture (Only 1 space left): From July 18 - 22 / Mon - Fri, 9am - 12pm under Instructor Mark Bump; Member $160 / Non-Member $200

Working primarily in plaster, we will explore the different elements of sculpture used in the studio to realize a finished piece.  Additive, subtractive, assemblage and casting are just a few of the skills that will be taught and enhanced through this studio workshop. Each day through a short lecture, demonstration and hands on interaction we will examine a different element and apply it to our masterpieces.  So bring a set of work clothes and let’s make some Sculpture. No experience necessary!  All materials included.

Printmaking Power Camp (Only 4 spaces left): From July 25 - 29 / Mon - Fri, 9am - 12pm under Instructor Conrad Guevara; Member $160 / Non-Member $200

During this one-week camp, students will explore a variety of printmaking techniques.  Each day we will learn about a new printmaking process, including screen-printing, mono printing, sophisticated potato stamps, wood block printing and more! Lots of prints, tons of mess and even more excitement! No experience necessary! All materials included.

Stop Motion Animation (Only 3 spaces left): From July 25 - August 5 / Mon - Fri, 1pm - 4pm under Instructor Scott Debus; Member $320 / Non-Member $400

In this two-week camp, students will learn the basics of stop motion animation! Each student will create his/her own clay characters for a stop action film! While working with others each student will write a storyboard, build sets and do voice-overs for the Claymation film. All students will receive a DVD copy of the film that they helped produce and direct. No experience necessary! All materials included.
