Carmen
Black Box Theatre

Set in the gritty and mysterious streets of a Spanish factory town, the hot-blooded and sensuous Carmen blazes a path of man-eating destruction in this shockingly tragic love story of fate and seduction. Immortalized in the George Bizet opera of the same name, it promises to be a sizzling night of steamy sensuality and a power-packed start to CBT’s 2008-2009 season.

The Great Gatsby

The East Hamptons set the scene for Jill Eathorne Bahr’s sweeping & epic Jazz Age balletic interpretation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic novel. The story of self-made millionaire Jay Gatsby and his love for socialite Daisy Buchanan is a cautionary tale about greed, ambition and the quest for the elusive American dream. This true dance drama features colorful acting and narration set to the music of George Gershwin and a memorable trip back to a timeless era.

The Nutcracker

It's Charleston circa 1865 and families are filling the streets and the market of downtown in a last minute rush for gifts and decorations. Young Maria is presented with the gift of a cherished authentic Nutcracker. With a little help from Uncle Drosselmeyer she is transported on a world tour through lands of fantasy beyond her imagination. This Charleston holiday tradition celebrates the magic of the holiday spirit and the kid that remains inside us all.

Blast from the Past: BeatleMania

Beatle mania remains a phenomenon that has yet to be matched in its magnitude as a cultural touchstone. In Liverpool, England 1966 four young lads set a course to turn the music world on its head and change the face of rock and roll forever. Jill Eathorne Bahr’s eclectic and inspired premiere takes you on a rollicking journey through the songbook of the legendary fab four and the insanity of Beatle rock culture.

Masterpieces of Dance

Set in the same vein as CBT’s spectacular The Best of Balanchine program, the dance company proudly showcases some of the greatest New York City based choreographers of the last century including the contemporary and whimsical work of Twyla Tharp and return of more stunning presentations of the great George Balanchine. CBT has exclusive rights to perform the works of Balanchine in the state of South Carolina and is thrilled to share his mastery with the CBT audience.

Jill Eathorne Bahr’s epic masterpiece returns upon great demand to the CBT mainstage in all its fantastical glory with the story of Britain’s King Arthur and his fury and sadness upon discovery of a love affair between his wife Queen Guinevere and best friend Sir Lancelot. Featuring a sensuous pas de deux, the famed round table meeting, stunning set design and breathtaking flying sequences, this exclusive event is a compelling and truly original take on the magical tale of the famed court.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
November 14 – 16 & 22 & 23

The green fur covered “Mean One” Mr. Grinch pays the people of WhoVille a visit as he hatches a plan to steal Christmas away from every joyous Who in town. Thanks to a sweet-faced Cindy Lou, Mr. Grinch’s heart grows two sizes bigger as he learns the true meaning of the holiday spirit in CBT’s take on the Dr. Seuss classic.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The fairest of them all, Snow White, befriends her new cottage mates the Seven Dwarfs, including Sleepy and Doc, encounters her jealous and cleverly disguised stepmother the Evil Queen, and finds true love in this enchanting and colorful take on the classic fable.

Carnival of the Animals/The Steadfast Tin Soldierack Box Theatre

Set to the music of French composer Saint-Saens The Carnival of the Animals is highlighted by an array of different animals represented by various musical instruments in a menagerie of thrilling performances.

The Steadfast Tin Soldier, based on the Hans Christian Andersen, is the sweet story of the simple love between a toy tin soldier and a paper ballerina and the perilous adventures he encounters. These two children’s programs are combined for a fun and exciting family friendly show.
