Found-object Artist Terry Brennan's Work on Display at The Michael Mitchell Gallery

 Terry Brennan did not set out to be known as an environmental artist or to create art with a social commentary but as his work progressed to sculpture, his eyes opened to new materials and the association naturally occurred.   He chooses to use discarded pieces from everyday life while promoting the endless possibilities of creativity.

Terry conveys his message through multiple layers, by throwing these everyday objects right back at the viewer in a way that is skillful and captivating. Seen here is his mixed media piece "Smoocher".

"French owner Perig Goulet moves agilely through the petite dining room of this unpretentious bistro. With back-to-back chairs making things cozy (and noisy), this place could be in Paris. Kevin Kelly chooses the wines—predominately French and esoteric, and they befit the authentic fare. Perig boasts of his country pâté, from a recipe handed down from his grand-mère. Other favorites include duck salad, scallops sautéed in cognac, and shrimp in a leek sauce. Dieters may be shocked by the golden frites fried in duck fat and served with aioli, but they keep putting their hungry hands in the basket. Check the blackboard for fish straight off the boats."

You may have heard that the summer menu has arrived at Fish Restaurant. With the use of seasonal ingredients and tenacity for mixing things up, the Fish team is right on target with the new items. Among the latest dinner selections you will find a Lobster Croque Madame, Crab Spring Roll and even Rabbit Cordon Bleu. If you think that sounds a lot like your next evening on King Street; I have to warn you, it only gets better. There are very few occasions to condone dessert-first mentality, but for this menu, you may want to make an exception. Four Words: Lemon Mascarpone Frozen Soufflé.

Corrigan Gallery Partners Up With Barsa Tapas for the Palette & Palate Stroll, July 13th

 The Corrigan Gallery is thrilled to have Barsa as its partner restaurant for the ever popular fundraiser - the Palette & Palate Stroll taking place this Friday, July 13th from 5:30-7:30pm.  Stroll through historic downtown Charleston while tasting food from twelve of the finest local restaurants inside twelve prestigious art galleries. 

We cannot wait to see what lovely tastes Cole and Drazen of Barsa (and Lana's fame) bring us! Start at any of the member galleries and enjoy the tastes of Charleston. The gallery presents "Contemporary Southern Women Artists" - no shrimp boats, no palmettos, no marshes. Lynne Riding, Daphne vom Baur, Mary Walker, Kristi Ryba, Lese Corrigan, Judy Cox, Sue Simons Wallace and Lolly Koon make up the stable of contemporary females in the gallery. Although not all were raised in the South, they have certainly chosen it as their home and have been influenced at least by the sultry, perfumed air.

And they do promise you sultry. It may be a bit cooler than the last weeks but they promise hot weather to add to the ambience! Stroll from gallery to gallery at your leisure, starting wherever you wish to see the latest works and sample foods from the wonderous local restaurants. There will be cool refreshing drinks and lots of ice.

This ticketed event allows for scholarship money to be provide to local educators - the Gibbes Museum of Art, Redux Contemporary Art Center and The College of Charleston, School of the Arts, Studio Art scholarship.  Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at the Charleston Fine Arts Dealers' Association's website.
